GIBBON TRAVELS is a tour operator in North
East India catering to foreign tourists
and Indian visitors. It is approved by the
Government of Arunachal Pradesh. GIBBON
TRAVELS operates only tailor-made journeys
to North East of India; it was started by
Aruna & Komkar in 2000 to promote North
East of India, to those wanting to experience
the real India. Started as an entrepreneurial
venture in 2000.
GIBBON is derived from the name of a small
arboreal ape called HOLOOCK GIBBON (Scientific
name: Bunopithecus hoolock), which is especially
found in North Eastern region of India?
It is the only ape found in the Indian subcontinent.
It displays amazing agility in swinging
through the trees of the evergreen forests
where it lives and makes loud calls, which
can be heard through the forest. We have
taken this name because of our inspiration
while guiding trips with Dr. George B Schaller
one of the worlds greatest Field Biologist
in 2000 and 2002
At GIBBON TRAVELS helps you to relax in
its picturesque hills and dales, enjoy its
salubrious climate and meet its simple and
hospitable people with their glorious heritage
of arts, crafts and colorful festival that
reflect their ancient faith in the inexorable
power of nature. The snow-capped mountains
of Arunachal Pradesh bordering China (Tibet),
Bhutan and Myanmar on its three sides stand
behind the other like sentinels preserving
eternal charms of the ethnic tribes and
their exotic ways of life. High Mountain
and dense forest have prevented intercommunication
between tribes living in different valleys,
isolation imposed by Geography has led over
26 major tribes and more than 60 sub tribes
with several dialects to live and flourish
with their distinct identities. The Apatani,
Nishi, Hills Miri, Tagins, Galong, Adi-Minyongs,
Idu-Mishmis, Nocte, Wangchos, Tangsas, Monpas,
Mijis, and Akas are some of the major tribes
of the Arunachal Pradesh. The fascinating
beauty of the North-East India is not only
little explored but little known to the
outside world. But of late Arunachal Pradesh
is savoring the attention and limelight
in the international tourism sector.
